the horny gym dream was a nightmare?? he jolted awake doesn’t read to me as a “sinking out of”. i wouldn’t describe the overall feel of the piece as sinking, although i can see the case for that. it’s about vulnerability, right, and the struggle not to be. the plushie is an obvious symbol of that, but plush is also a word for soft, in contrast to the hard facade, muscles, metal, and bone.
